The
ATT PIM 429R2 is a dual channel ARINC 419/429 Receiver Module designed
to be fitted onto the ATT-DAS PC/16 and PCI/24 test and simulation cards
for PC/AT compatible computers. This 40 pin module plugs into one of 12 sites on the ATT-DAS PCI/24. A single host card can accept up to 12 429R2 PIMs, which therefore permits up to 24 ARINC Rx channels to be mounted onto a single board. Alternatively, the PIM 429R2 can be mixed with other PIM types to build a multi-protocol system. The PIM 429R2
uses high speed opto-coupled receivers to connect to the ARINC bus,
thus providing maximum isolation for both the unit under test, and
the host PC. The outputs from the opto-couplers are fed to a custom
logic array. Both channels of ARINC are fully independent, and have
their own opto-couplers and LCA receiver circuits. Time multiplexing
of the receivers is NOT used. |
||
The
PIM 429R2’s LCA auto configures to both high speed (100Khz) and
low speed (12.5Khz) ARINC 419/429 data. In addition, it is possible
to auto configure to any ARINC 419/429 data rate from 6Khz to 400Khz.
The data rate of the bus is reported to the host PC via the dual port
RAM on the ATT-DAS PC/16 or PCI/24. |
|||
The following modes of operation are supported with the PIM 429R2. |
|||
| In Acquisition mode, each Bus Monitor channel filters and time tags the received data to 1uS accuracy. Data can be filtered by Label, SDI and SSM. Acquired data which fulfils the acquisition filter conditions is placed into an 8K FIFO for subsequent reading by the host PC. An interrupt can be generated when the FIFO becomes half full. Acquisition is concurrent with monitoring and activity. |
|||
| In Monitor mode, each Bus Monitor channel can monitor data in real time. Received words are time tagged to 1uS accuracy and placed into a dual port RAM buffer for subsequent reading by the host PC. Each Label has its five Last Value Table entries in the Dual Port RAM. The first of the five entries is updated every time the label is received from the bus. One of the other four entries is updated depending upon the state of the SDI bits in the received ARINC word. It is therefore possible to read the time-tag and last value for each of the 256 possible labels, AND each of the 4 possible SDI conditions for each label. An interrupt can be generated when any Label, SDI or SSM combination is placed into the dual port memory. Monitoring is concurrent with Acquisition and Activity. |
|||
| In Activity mode, an eight bit count is kept for each label, and each Label/SDI combination. These counts are incremented each time the corresponding ARINC word occurs on the bus. By reading the Activity counts, it is possible to determine which Labels and SDI’s are present on the bus, and also the rate at which they are being transmitted. Activity is concurrent with Acquisition and Monitoring. | |||
| For a turn-key solution to many applications, a menu driven software package running under Microsoft Windows is available, see http://gssprojects.com. |
|||
| For users wishing to write their own software, an Application Program Interface (API) complete with source code is available. Written in Microsoft C, this code can be compiled into a library suitable for both Windows and DOS based applications. It can also be compiled into a self contained Windows DLL. | |||
